The West Muddy property is remotely located 5 miles off the highway. The exit to the property is .8 miles north of the entrance to Paonis state recreation area on highway 133 ( exit west ). The Ranch is located in some of the best elk hunting grounds in Colorado. Deer, bear, grouse, and varmint are also found on this ranch. The main cabins are centrally located, and a well established road system makes for easy access to all hunting and recreation areas. This ranch is adjacent to over 20,000 acres of USDA Nation Forest and BLM land known for quality hunting. The West Muddy River runs through this property, yielding limited trout fishing.

This is a year round property. Parking, tent, and trailer camping are permitted in designated areas. The bunkhouses are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Reservations are required.

The old sheeping ranch house has been recently remodeled to provide a comfortable stay, and includes Aspen tongue-in-groove walls and wood-burning fireplace. Propane kitchen appliances including refrigerator, lighting, and stove. Running potable hot and cold water and indoor sanitary facilities including a hot shower. Three bedrooms sleep fifteen (15) people. The bunkhouse is centrally located on the property.

Directions:

From the summit of McClure pass (approximately 25 miles south of Carbondale, CO) go exactly 12 miles south of highway 133. You will come to a gravel road with green 1 1/2 in tubular gates on the west side of highway 133, there is a sign (Hotchkiss Sheep Ranch) exit here.continue west (stay right at all intersection) approximatley 5 miles to ranch house.

General Notes on West Muddy Ranch:

• The bunk houses offer a great deal of comfort; be sure to bring clothes you can relax in.
• The general terrain varies from rolling scrub oak to Aspen groves to large draws surrounded by trees. Water holes all around the ranch and surrounding forest provide excellent wildlife viewing and hunting areas. As this is a very large area of land, you will need transportation (especially during hunting season.) We strongly suggest Jeeps, ATVs, or horses for greater mobility. Please keep in mind that this is a working sheep and cattle ranch.
• We limit the number of hunters on this ranch to twelve (12) during all hunting seasons. Archery, Black Powder, and Rifle are sold as a five day hunt. additional days can be arranged upon request. - You will do your own cooking on this ranch. If we have different groups staying on the ranch at the same time, we request that hunters in camp work together on their meals. This allows everyone to eat at the same time, and makes use of the kitchen more efficient. It also allows for a rotation of cooking and cleaning duties. It's also a great way to to meet other hunters and possibly make new friends. A cook and meals can be arranged at an additional expense. Inquire about additional services when booking your hunt.
• All Colorado lottery applications to hunt this ranch must be postmarked by the first Tuesday in April. The date varies, but the deadline always falls on the first Tuesday in April.
