My story is of a satisfied hunter booked by Colorado Hunting Adventures. Our 2008 Rocky Mountain big game hunting adventure, was put together by Jim Jones This is the second year we have booked our elk hunt with Colorado Huntind Adventures. We are generally in the elk, thanks to Jim's knowledge of the vast territory availableat the West Muddy Ranch. We hunted second season this year, a good thing as there wasn’t much snow early in Colorado in 2008? This year we booked a hunt on a property known as Bull Mountain in the Ted X area. We were a little apprehensive to hunt this area, as we were not familiar with the terrain. Jim assured us that Ted X was very productive. I bought a Bull tag for the second season. My mouth was watering with the thought of filling my freezer with delicious elk steaks. During a phone conversations with Jim, we went over topo maps and devised a plan. Jim made me privy to the elk crossing patterns between ridges that he had observed over the years. He was confident I would be successful in these spot. The first few days were overcast and cool, great big game hunting weather. After glassing for hours opening morning, I decided to take Jim’s advice. I packed a few snacks, checked my water and set off for the saddle between the ridges of Ted X. I settled into a cozy thicket of scrub oak skirting a large park. Sitting there daydreaming when just as the sky began to turn opal, I was startled when five deer bounded into the park from my blind side. Bringing down my rifle I began watching the deer forage, a movement in the back of the park, caught my attention! Nine cow elk began slowly grazing their way into the opening. I was losing shooting light and didn’t have much time. I knew I needed to close the gap between me and the cows and fast! My attack plan was to hurry fifteen yards to a closer thicket. My heart raced, when I realized the deer would be spooked if I broke across the opening. No matter, that was my best position. I waited for the elk to browse into a blind spot, and the race was on. To my amazement the deer stood there and let me fast pace right past them. Crawling into the thicket I was now 200 yards from where the elk would appear. I anchored on my pack and tried to measure my breathing. A nice healthy cow grazed up over the hill, and my 7mm mag. wrote the rest of this story. My money was well spent, thanks to Jim and the knowledgeable staff at Colorado Hunting Adventures. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking to hunt big game in Colorado. Thanks again Jim & CHA Steve Samuels
Good shooting Steve, I just wanted to confirm your assessment of Bull Mountain. We hunted Bull Mountain the third rifle season in 2007. Jim was also very helpfulI in walking us through our first hunt on that property. That saddle you are referring to Is a great evening crossing area? I hunted elk close to that location in 2007. In the late Afternoon you can catch elk crossing the open areas moving down Bull Mountain. In 2007 I shot a nice young five- point bull. I would definitely consider hunting the Bull mountain property in the future. Thanks Colorado Hunting Adventures
